Getting Cracking for Easter

Colourful and creative Easter themed gardens and hats have been on show at Newington Community Primary School in Ramsgate.

Children across the whole school from Nursery to Year 6 are enjoying the spirit of the Easter.

The main reception area is ablaze with the colours of springtime with trees in leaf, daffodils poking through the grass, a hen house with eggs in trays and bunnies and chicks everywhere.

The vibrant scene greets pupils, families, and visitors and is part of the ever-changing themed programme in the reception area throughout the year.

Festivities really went to the heads of pupils in several parades of home-made hats. The creativity of the beautiful bonnets featured a whole variety of chicks, eggs, bunnies, eggs and a few Minions from the Despicable Me children’s film favourite.

The miniature Easter gardens were another example of how imaginative the children have been – hundreds of gardens included all the traditional Easter themes, while some depicted carrots in vegetables patches, picket fences, floral arrangements in decorated buckets – and several used real turf and real daffodils.

Head teacher Cliff Stokes is full of admiration for the bonnets and the gardens. He said: “They are all brilliant. The colours and designs are wonderful and the intricacy of the work and the artistic thought processes from the strikingly simple to the complex designs are very impressive. A lot of thought, effort and time has gone into the ideas.

Pupils have also explored the traditional Easter story in a number of ways including music and songs, and they have considered all the different aspects of Easter and Christianity.

Mr Stokes added: “Easter is one of the major celebrations of our school year and we celebrate it on many different levels from the advent of spring to the religious festival and what it means to people worldwide.”
